Prof. Michael Fairchild Tribute

All funds raised through this page will go toward the Professor Michael Fairchild Memorial Endowed Scholarship to support undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Construction Management.

UTA’s Department of Civil Engineering was saddened by the passing of Prof. Mike Fairchild in December 2023. Prof. Fairchild was a friendly and helpful colleague, wonderful friend, and dedicated teacher. A Professor of Practice in Construction Management, he taught at UTA from 2009 starting in the graduate program and later both graduate and undergraduate programs until the time of his passing. He was one of the founding instructors of the BS in Construction Management (BSCM) program and served actively on its Advisory Council. During his 14 years of service at UTA, he made a difference in the education of literally thousands of construction management and civil engineering students. He brought extensive real-world experience to his classes, which his students greatly appreciated. After graduating from UTA with a B.S. in Architecture in 1973 and a Master’s in 1977, Prof. Fairchild worked in the construction industry for several decades. This included serving as Vice President of Construction for Fairfield Development, managing the construction activities of the company’s staff building high-rise apartments and condominiums. He also provided professional services through his consulting company, MwF.Buildingsmith.LLC, for developers and architects.

Prof. Fairchild was grateful to UTA for the start it provided for his career and contributed generously to the BSCM scholarship fund every year. We think that a scholarship in his name is a fitting memorial. We are thus establishing the Professor Michael Fairchild Memorial Scholarship Endowment, which will support an undergraduate Construction Management student who has academic merit and financial need.

Should gifts reach the minimum funding level of $25,000 required for an endowment, the scholarship will be endowed as described above. If gifts do not reach the minimum funding level, they will be expended for non-endowed scholarships as described above.
